This weekend it was time for bread baking session number two, and I'm happy to say we avoided the pitfalls of last week. I put in the correct amount of yeast. I left it to prove under a tea-towel, not clingfilm. And I even left it for more or less the correct amount of time before putting it in a pre-heating oven! I also think my plait this week was superior - longer and more even:
When I pulled it from the oven I was filled with pride - it looked and smelt great!
Of course, then I had the mission of removing the bread from the baking tray. Perhaps I needed to more thoroughly flour the tray prior to baking?!
Oops!
Never mind, once sliced up it made DELICIOUS lunch. Rachel had hers with tuna and cucumber.
I, myself, went for plain butter and jam. With bread that fresh and warm, butter and jam is the only way to go. And it was very, VERY tasty. In fact, children in my class would suggest scrumptious as a better adjective.
Mmmm...
